Mount Kilimanjaro is located entirely within the country of Tanzania in East Africa. It is situated in the north-eastern part of the country, within the Kilimanjaro Region and protected inside the Kilimanjaro National Park.

• Proximity to Border: The mountain sits just 20 miles (32 km) south of the Kenyan border. While it can be clearly seen from parts of Kenya (such as Amboseli National Park), the physical mountain and all official climbing routes are strictly on the Tanzanian side.
Distance to Equator: It lies approximately 205 miles (330 km) south of the Equator.
Base Towns: The closest major hub and traditional starting point for trekkers is the town of Moshi, located at the southern base of the mountain. The city of Arusha is also nearby, sitting about 2 hours to the west.

Recommended Tipping On Mount Kilimanjaro Expedition:

>>Assistant Guide: $15-20 per day
>>Chef/Cook: $12-15 per day
>>Porters: $10-12 per day per porter
For example, if four travellers are on the mountain, each person could contribute $5.00 per day to make a one day tip of 20$ for the assistant guide.
Cash condition: Bring clean, undamaged US dollar bills printed after 2009, or its equivalent in either in EUROS OR STERLING POUNDS. Avoid coins since they cannot be exchanged locally.
The tipping ceremony: Tips are normally handed over collectively during a celebration on the final day at the last camp or at the park gate.
